about

The Lifers are a sister-fronted art-folk/rock collective from Guelph, Ontario. They are releasing their sophomore album "Honey Suite" in May 2018 and have released this single in advance of the album.

--

Sister is about working with family and touring the country for the first time while suffering from anxiety. This song epitomizes Liv and Anita’s relationship, allowing listeners to learn about them musically, lyrically and personally. Feelings of sadness, self-doubt, and fear of disappointment give way to self-honesty and forgiveness in this upbeat tune.

“When Anita first played this song for me, I wept. Our relationship is so beautiful and complex, and Sister expresses this more clearly than we’ve ever been able to, in our many heart to hearts,” says Liv.

Recorded at Wildlife Sanctuary Sound, Turtleshell Studio and VaporRMW.

lyrics

Eyes running dry
Frozen in my swaying tracks
And you see the things I lack

Leave me to lie
Crying in our parents’ room
I’ll join you in the kitchen soon
Where I’ll finish disappointing
You

Oh sister if you only knew the things I wish that I could do
I’d roll into the garden and I’d pick a bunch of flowers for you
I’d pay my fortune to the road though all we’d ever do was lose
But sister if you only knew the things I wish that I could do

Roll into a town
And my eyes are shifting
And my hands are shaking

Pull you back down
Are the plans all in a row
Realize that I just need to know
But honestly I just want to go
Home

Oh sister if you only knew the things I wish that I could do
I’d roll into the garden and I’d pick a bunch of flowers for you
I’d pay my fortune to the road though all we’d ever do was lose
But sister if you only knew the things I wish that I could do
That I could do
That I could do
That I could do
